The Sinfonia Youth Orchestra program is the premier training orchestra in Northwest Florida and consists of more than 50 students who perform throughout the school year in one of two ensembles: The Sinfonietta Strings and the Sinfonia Youth Orchestra. Conductor Aaron King Vaughn has officially announced their call for new youth musicians to join the orchestra for the 2020-2021 year.

Sinfonia

The Sinfonia Youth Orchestra is a full orchestra of more than 40 talented young musicians ranging in age from 6th to 12th grade. Advanced string, woodwind, brass and percussionists make up the core of the orchestra. Membership is now open to any qualified musician.  Weekly rehearsals for the Sinfonia Youth Orchestra will begin on Sunday, September 13 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Destin Commons in the vacant merchant space between Express and Steve Madden.

Sinfonietta String’s membership is open to developing string players, with at least two years of lessons, or recommendations from their music teachers. Sinfonietta Strings is a training program to prepare the musicians to move up to the full orchestra. Weekly rehearsals will begin on Sunday, September 13 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Destin Commons in the vacant merchant space between Express and Steve Madden.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, King Vaughn and the Sinfonia Gulf Coast team surveyed parents of the current members of the Youth Orchestra to understand how they envisioned their involvement for the 2020-2021 season.

“The overwhelming response from our students and parents was that they were excited to return to rehearsals in person,” said King Vaughn. “We are taking extensive safety measures to ensure the students are socially distanced appropriately during all rehearsals.”

Participation in either youth group requires a registration fee of $175 for the fall term, or $350 for the year. The Sinfonietta Strings and Sinfonia Youth Orchestra perform annual fall and spring concerts and at community events throughout the school year. The Sinfonia Youth Orchestra program is sponsored by Sinfonia Gulf Coast.
