Santa Rosa Beach Community Church will be celebrating its 75th birthday with an Open house on January 25, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m. with our worship celebration. We can’t wait for you to be a part of this special occasion!
The Community Church was formed in 1940 by a small group of people. The original chapel was built in 1950 by volunteers. This chapel is now used for El Shaddaii, the Hispanic Community. They meet on Tuesday and Sunday nights. They are a vital part of our church with Pastor Reyes as their pastor.
In the mid-40s, a hurricane came through this area and destroyed three churches: Baptist, Methodist, and Catholic. Instead of building three churches, one church emerged, and it is called Santa Rosa Beach Community Church. There have been several Pastors through the years: Pastor Don Ulrich, Pastor Pete Hyde, the longest serving pastor.
Dr. Steve Squires, our Senior Pastor, came to us in 2020 from Chicago. He teaches several Bible Studies, a writer of blogs, and magazine articles and oversees the direction of our church with the help of the church board. He also finds time to teach a Bible Study at Brookdale, in addition to visiting his congregation. His sermon on Sunday inspires every age group. There is something for everyone.
Dr. Hilary (Scooter) Ward, the Associate Pastor and Minister of Music, is a man of many talents. He came to our church in 2016. In addition to leading and orchestrating the music, he also leads two ukulele groups that perform monthly at memory care facilities. He continues to teach others how to play the instrument. He is also a USAF veteran and served on the board of the Gulf Cemetery Association as Vice President for ten years.
Our pianist is Mark Krueger, and the organist is Jan Rundquist. They continue to amaze our congregation with their beautiful music.
We also have a preschool under the direction of Ms Kim Boguskie, where young children between the ages of two and four are instructed in a faith-based Christian curriculum. Self-confidence is emphasized making learning fun.
Alex Swab is our director of Family Ministries since 2024. She has been successful in forming a student ministry that meets on Sunday night. She has also been responding for Fall Festival and Vacation Bible School. In addition, Alex organizes Kid Connection, a Bible Study for Pre-K through 5th grade on Sunday mornings.
Let’s join the fun on January 25th. There will be activities for the entire family. On Sunday, after church service at 10:00, there will be food trucks to feed the hungry. There will also be games such as corn hole. For the little ones there will be access to the playground.
Inside, there will be a video presentation of the history of our Church from the past to the present. There will also be several stations throughout the church depicting the programs we participate in and support.
We will be celebrating God’s blessings and grace upon our church. Looking in the rear-view mirror provides our road to the past and looking ahead to see what God has in store for the future.
