“Since our inception in 1973 we have been viewed as “the” county mental health and substance abuse service provider,” said Rachel R Gillis CEO of COPE Center.  Many things have changed in healthcare in the past 43 years, but behavioral health conditions continue to be extremely common.  Medicine concluded, nearly 20 years ago, that treating behavioral health conditions and medical separately were leading to inferior care to the individuals.  That resulted in higher total spending in health costs, more time loss at work, and people dying 25 years earlier than their peers.

COPE Center has been focusing on integration of care for their clients recently and expanding their scope of program service delivery.  Some examples of those integrations of service include our Okaloosa Healthy Start services, co-location of therapy staff in Walton County Health Department, and co-location in medical practice in South Walton soon.

As a result of these changes and our additions to our service delivery, we believe our practice name needs to better reflect our strategic plan activities. We will now be practicing under Chautauqua Healthcare Services.  With this name change, the community can now view our services as a complete integrated healthcare provider for the area.
