What do summer, sundaes, and senior smiles have in common? At Somerby Senior Living, this was a magical recipe for fun.

The residents and visitors were treated to abundant self-created servings of ice cream and topping from “the world’s biggest sundae” – so-called because Somerby locations throughout the Southeast were serving up the same delicious fare – at 3 pm. On July 17. “Last year our celebration was such a fun day,” said Director of Lifestyles Anna Odom, “ that this year’s event had to happen.” To add to the entertainment, Somerby in Santa Rosa Beach, Pittman Magic, Juggling and Comedy combined feats of illusion and humor – and members of the audience – in his performance.

Residents declared the event a success that is typical of life at Somerby.

Betty McElroy, a resident of two years said, “There’s always something going on.” She added that the ice cream sundae was a nice treat but was not surprised. “The food is always good here – we have a wonderful chef.” Betty describes herself as thankful to live [at Somerby] where [she] has met many good friends.

DeLene Shoals enjoyed the cool treats and found the magician to be exceptionally entertaining. “It was great, really special. There were a lot of things in his act that I just loved.” She included how much she enjoyed watching staff members Lisa Wainwright and Jake Shikire pulled into the act. “They are my family.”  There are always ‘special occasions’ and parties, exercising, and socializing for this one one-year resident.

Married for 62 years, Shirley and Wendell Bobbit attend all the events Somerby holds. “You don’t have to go anywhere else for entertainment, there’s plenty here.”  Wendell said.  Shirley agreed, saying “The day’s event was a favorite. The magician was very good, very entertaining. We really enjoyed all of it.”
