Competing on an international stage takes speed, precision, and elite athletic ability. South Walton Fire District (SWFD) lifeguard Noah Cahan has demonstrated all three, earning a selection to the 12-member US Open National Team for the 2026 Lifesaving World Championships in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

He will travel to South Africa in November 2026 to compete against the top lifeguards from across the world. His selection is a tremendous milestone for his career, as this is his first time earning a spot on the national team.

Noah will represent the U.S. team in both Flags and Sprints events, bringing the speed, agility, and competitive experience needed to perform at the highest level of lifesaving sport.

“Noah represents the best of all of us,” said SWFD Beach Safety Director David Vaughan. “He’s a valued member of our team and the local Emerald Coast Lifesaving Association chapter not just for his athleticism but also in how he carries himself in every aspect of the job. Our community should be proud of what he’s accomplishing and what this means for the profession of lifeguarding along the Emerald Coast.”

Lifesaving sport combines athletic competition with skills and physical abilities that are essential to professional lifeguarding. Events such as beach flags and beach sprints challenge competitors’ speed, reaction time, agility, and conditioning. These disciplines require athletes to perform under pressure while maintaining the physical readiness that supports their work in the open water.

Beyond Cahan’s athletic accomplishments, he is a valued member of the SWFD Beach Safety Division, having recently been promoted from Full-Time Lifeguard to the supervisory role of Beach Safety Officer. He consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to his responsibilities, exceptional athletic performance, and a high standard of customer service for all who enjoy South Walton’s beaches.

SWFD congratulates Cahan on this achievement and recognizes the hard work that helped earn him a place on the national team. As he prepares for competition in South Africa, the district wishes him continued success and good health in his training.
