Forward DeFuniak, Inc. to Host 4th Annual Sprint Triathlon

The Sprint Triathlon, sponsored by Forward DeFuniak, Inc., will be held on May 4, 2024, from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. in DeFuniak Springs. If you’d like to race, see dfstriathlon.com or runsignup.com for registration information. The swim and bike courses are the same as in 2023 The route for the 5K has been changed slightly. Registration will be capped at 200 this year.

Taylor Lathinghouse, Race Coordinator, reported that the race sign-up website shows 101 registrants with 4 weeks remaining for registration. This is a testament to the hard work of the board and all the volunteers and sponsors who helped to showcase our city in 2023.

Nadine Bacon, Event Coordinator, has details well in hand for 2024. Contestants have remarked that it was one of the best-organized events in their experience and that they never felt safer at a race Our police, sheriff and emergency management agencies made a fabulous impression. The goal is to match or exceed all expectations for 2024.

A Walton County Tourism Development Committee grant has been received to cover some of the expenses. In addition, business sponsorships, to date include Triangle Chevrolet; Clark Partington Attorneys; Amy Heavlin, CPA; DeFuniak Landmarks with UWF Historic Trust; PlayTri, FWB; Aqua Techs; Tech Planet; and Clary-Glen Funeral Home. Last Stop Beer Vault and Domino’s Pizza are hosting an “after” party for the racers.

Proceeds in 2023 allowed small grants to be made to 10 local nonprofit organizations. Come as a spectator (bring a lawn chair and stay at a local bed and breakfast or hotel) and be amazed, not only with the race but with the surroundings. For more information, call (850) 830-7663.
