By Ylene Forwood,
Have you been hypnotized before? How was that experience for you? I hope that it was a pleasant one. Contrary to so many myths and misconceptions, Hypnosis in a clinical setting is widely used and is evidenced based to help with many personal issues. Some of the more common issues are with behavioral change, reducing stress, breaking unpleasant habits, overcoming fear, improving sports performance, getting rid of test anxiety and many more. My goal is to help ease your mind to the idea of Hypnosis by empowering you with facts and knowledge; and then introduce you to the wonders that it can do to help remove any form of suffering.
But first, did you know that Hypnosis does NOT put you to sleep?! YES, you heard me right. During Hypnosis… you HEAR every word spoken to you. During hypnosis, you are in a deeply relaxed, altered (Trance-like) state of mind that feels very natural and with no drugs involved. It’s the same feeling when you first wake up in the morning or when you’re feeling sleepy at bedtime. One very useful application of Hypnosis is that it allows us to focus more inwardly so that we can get more in touch with our feelings and emotions. But I can promise you that you are NEVER under the power of the hypnotist – whether on stage or in a clinical setting for which I am here to speak about and refer to. You are FULLY in control during hypnosis, and you will have a full memory of the entire session. Therefore, if given the chance…. hypnosis is a very powerful tool to open our subconscious awareness. Hypnosis is used to communicate with our deep inner mind to help eliminate any old programming and old limiting beliefs that no longer serve us. Let me cite an example. A person with a chronic smoking habit knows smoking is detrimental to his or her health. If you currently have a smoke habit…. you know exactly what I am talking about here. Yet you find it difficult, if not impossible, to quit. And people who seek to quit their smoking habit are oftentimes unsuccessful. That is because our Subconscious Mind holds the key for change. And for change to take place we must understand that our subconscious mind is our habitual and “feeling’ mind. Therefore, it’s imperative to address a stressful event or a traumatic experience that can reignite the desire to light up the next cigarette. It’s a vicious cycle that requires looking into the emotions that drive the behavior in the first place.
To sum it up, it is important to know that our subconscious mind has a lot of information that our conscious mind doesn’t have access to. Hypnosis happens to be a powerful tool to access this information. A good UNDERSTANDING and then PROCESSING of any problem at the subconscious level of awareness is key in solving many issues due to old programming, old negative beliefs and all other self-defeating behaviors that we have learned as a child. In Hypnosis – we can make the connections or find the missing links to reasons why we are holding on to our old habits that no longer serve us that we want to eliminate.
