Timothy and Patsy Hardin were born and raised in a small town outside of Nashville, TN and have been best friends for as long as they can remember. They have celebrated over 40 years of marriage and have successfully owned and operated their own jewelry business for over 30 years.For over 15 years they served the needs of jewelers and gold dealers throughout the greater Nashville area through their business, Gold and Diamond Outlet in Portland, TN. How they ended up on 30A is a remarkably familiar story to many of us. “We’ve been vacationing here in Seagrove for 30 years,” says Patsy. “Our first trip was in 1986 and we just fell in love with the beaches, and the people, it was just magical!” In those days scrub covered dunes were all that lay to the north side of 30A and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. There were very few beachfront properties then,” continues Patsy. “One time as we arrived on vacation, there was a brush fire on the southern side of 30A and no one seemed bothered or alarmed. The locals just let it burn out on its own. That’s not something you see everyday and it sort of contributed to the charm.”
In the summer of 2012, the Hardins purchased a condominium on 30A, intending to lease it out most of the year and to vacation the remaining time. However, the following year while taking a stroll past Seagrove Plaza they noticed that the famed Bruno’s Pizzeria had closed and relocated to Watersound. Patsy remembers looking at Tim and saying: “Why not?” And the rest, they say, is history. Jewelry of 30A opened its doors early in 2014, bringing Tim’s 30 years of varied experience in the Jewelry business to the South Walton community. Most of the store’s designs and settings come from the West Coast bringing trending fashions from LA to 30A. In addition to specializing in fine jewelry and engagement rings, Jewelry of 30A also offers a large selection of leather and pearl jewelry made exclusively by one of their talented local designers, as well as Patsy’s unique line of beach themed fashion jewelry for casual wear.
When Tim was asked what sets Jewelry of 30A apart from other jewelry stores and if a local dealer really can compete with“big name” stores, he instantly said, “it’s in the buying. In order to be a good jeweler you have to be a good buyer. My experience in the wholesale gold and diamond business allows me to offer better prices to my retail customers. Many times at prices below what my competitors can purchase the same diamonds for. It happens all the time, and it is truly a joy to sell someone a superior product knowing that I gave them the best possible price.”
