Road To Redemption

By Victoria Ostrosky

Lucy Pevensie, from C.S. Lewis’ classic seven-book series, The Chronicles of Narnia, was especially close to Aslan, the Son of the Emperor Over the Sea. She met Aslan in the first book written in the series, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and her heart only grew to love the huge golden lion – the same lion who sang Narnia into existence – more as the series progressed.  As a matter of fact, in Prince Caspian, for a time, she was the only one who could see Aslan – to her brothers Peter and Edmund. and sister Susan, he remained invisible.  In this sense, she was the one with faith.

You can’t help but think of the scriptures about children and Jesus.  Jesus has a special love for little ones and, you may remember, was incensed when His disciples attempted to prevent children from coming to Him to be blessed.  You may also recall that Jesus said we must become like little children to enter the Kingdom.   In another place, Jesus revealed the unique standing infants and children have when He spoke of how each one has an angel who ‘always beholds the face of My Father.’  His haunting visual of the judgment that awaits those who abuse children is terrifying.

So, it shouldn’t be a surprise when children, who tend to be the most trusting and open-hearted, are used by God to manifest His Gospel.

Young Danica Lopez is one of these precious children in whom God has placed an especially open heart.  Her dad says that every day she wakes up and starts singing.  She loves reaching out to people, “you can come to church with me and come with me and pray and worship God with me.”

Danica’s dad says that no matter what they’re doing or where they’re at, if she hears sirens, “she stops what she’s doing and prays for the people that no one is hurt.”

She loves to worship God in song. She has some favorites among popular contemporary Christian music, but she has also written a few songs of her own that she sings in her own private worship time.

Danica also loves helping the poor and homeless.  One day she asked her dad for some money, and when he handed it to her, she took it over to a man on the street and gave it to him. “And he told me, ‘God bless you!’”

Danica

One of the many important truths Danica has learned in her school, Gateway Academy, is that “every time you fall down, you can get back up with Jesus.”

Danica’s family has learned quite a bit from her.  Her dad states, “We used to focus more on our problems, but now we are learning not to bother her when she is on her knees and worshipping.  Everyone needs to learn not to worry.”

That absolute faith and pure trust that a child has is precious in God’s sight.  His desire is that we become more and more like children, resting and trusting in His protection and unconditional love.  God is using young Danica as an example of the type of faith walk that pleases Him.

Danica says, “Jesus loves you no matter what situation you’re in right now.”  So, step back from your worry and learn how to rest and trust in your Heavenly Father.  Lucy Pevensie also learned this crucial lesson from her time in Narnia, and once her brothers and sister learned it too, their faith grew to the point where they could also see Aslan guiding them safely to their destination.
