The Gift of Imagination

Do you remember growing up as a child having many playful imaginations as a young boy or girl? Perhaps you dressed up as a policeman who keeps the bad guys away?  Or being Cinderella wearing your beautiful dress while you played with your teacups?  Or maybe you were the doctor who likes to help someone feel better?  Or did you always put on your Superman costume to rescue anyone in trouble?  How often as a child did you imagine yourself being at a certain place and having the same experiences as you would in reality?!  How often did you visit and ride the rides at Disneyworld long before your actual trip?!  I bet the experience was everything you imagined it to be and more.

Growing up in the Philippines as a young child – I often imagined being at the beach.  I would imagine myself swimming or lying chest down on my surfboard.  I remember feeling exuberant each time.  It felt so real!  I would see the gentle waves.  I see a whole bunch of kids my age having the time of their lives while rolling themselves in the sand.  And during the times when we were at the beach, I would do the same thing again and imagine being able to surf using my cardboard carton surfboard.  There I was surfing the waves.  All my cousins were doing the same thing and we were experts at surfing.  We laughed hard as we rode the waves in our minds.  It’s still vivid in my head like it was yesterday.  But the truth was I never really had the chance to learn how to surf, let alone own a surfboard.  What I had was this big cardboard carton that I cut up and used each time my imagination took me surfing.  And it didn’t really matter.  In my mind it was all the same.  I’ve experienced how to surf in more ways than one through my imagination.  It gave me the experience and joy as often as I imagined myself on a surfboard.  My imagination allowed me to have those wonderful memories and experiences as a young girl.  And to this day I still find myself very much connected to the feelings that my imagination brings up when I think about those times.  The GIFT of our imagination is truly special and one of a kind.

When I became a hypnotherapist, it became known and clear to me that those joyful feelings were possible because our deep inner mind (AKA our subconscious mind) does not know the difference between real and imagined thoughts, ideas and experiences.  When a suggestion is made especially during our tender age of between 0 to 7…. we automatically receive or perceive the suggestion as real and true.  And whatever we think… we feel.  So, as we can conceive of a thing – we can also feel a thing.  This line is so powerful and true that I had to borrow it from my former and well-loved instructor/mentor back in hypno school.  Just like Albert Einstein’s famous quote says: “Imagination is more important than knowledge.  Knowledge is limited.  Imagination encircles the world.”

So how can we take advantage of this notion?  Well, VISUALIZE and keep your imagination flowing.  Besides, there is no rule that we must stop our creative juices flowing just because we’ve become an adult.  So next time that you have a project, travel plans or creative idea… imagine away and see yourself already in the experience.  With sufficient and more than enough feelings poured in to associate with your idea…the closer you will find yourself manifesting anything in your life into reality.
