The Democratic Women’s Club of Walton County started 2023 off right on January 17, 2023 by honoring our veterans with a chili cook off at the Coastal Library and a talk by Captain Doris Ravenell-Brown about her service with the US Public Health Service. Congratulations to chili contest winner Becki Baker, who won for the second year in a row. The Club also donated books to the library for their book sales.
Our February event will be participating in the Black History Parade in DeFuniak Springs on February 18 at 11 am. This annual event is planned by the Democratic Black Caucus of Walton County and is led by President Liz Wilson and parade organizer Sandra Macon. All are invited to attend (the parade route starts on Baldwin Avenue and goes through downtown, ending up at the Tivoli school complex}. Following the parade there will be an after party with vendors, food trucks, and a dee jay.
In March the DWCWC celebrates Women’s History Month at the Cantina Laredo restaurant on Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach. For $25 you can have a delicious meal and hear Women’s Club member Deborah Rine speak about her family’s involvement with Adlai Stevenson, an important figure in Democratic political history. The date is Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm and to sign up go to our website, which is waltoncountydwc.org. There is a $2 fee for using your credit card. Sign up deadline is March 7.
And most joyously of all, the DWC of WC is proud to report that thanks to the donations of club members and other citizens we were able to erase over $1,000,000 in medical debt for Walton, Washington, and Holmes County residents through the RIP program! For more information on RIP, go to their website, www.ripmedicaldebt.org.
