ABOUT OHANA INSTITUTE®

The Institute was founded in 2011 by local resident Elizabeth “Lettye” Burgtorf with a mission to educate children in innovative ways to encourage them to find their true passion by individualizing their learning paths. A fully accredited 501c3 private school serving grades K-12, Ohana has have Full Accreditation Status as an outstanding academic institution by AISF (The Association of Independent Schools of Florida) and Cognia (formally SAICS/AdvanceED).

Since the 2018 the school has operated in their own freestanding, two-story school and three additional specialized suites in 30Avenue in Inlet Beach. The main facility is approximately 20,000 square feet and is a state-of-the-art learning environment made possible by the support of generous donors who contribute to an annual capital campaign. In addition to the main space, there is A  9th-12th grade dedicated learning space, a STEM Lab and an Arts Center.

Burgtorf believes the Institute should provide a ‘creative environment’ where learning happens organically: “We believe that through individualized learning plans, students feel supported in all areas of their lives. We strive to allow this process to give students a strong sense of self-confidence that will go with them all the way through adulthood,”

she says. “Being a part of this community is extremely valuable to us. Our students, parents, and staff engage with various organizations throughout Walton and Bay Counties, including Food For Thought, Alaqua Animal Refuge, Morrison Springs Park, The Blake Assisted Living, Somerby Senior Living, The Choctawhatchee Bay Alliance and the HOPE Panhandle organization. Additionally, our students love to engage with locals and visitors alike through performing music at different local venues and schools.”
