A community yard sale, hosted by a group of Saint Rita parishioners, daily from 8am to 1pm on Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30 will take place to raise support for a mission trip to Mexico City, Mexico this summer. While in Mexico, the group will work with the nonprofit, Hope of the Poor.
The sale will be held indoors at the St, Rita Catholic church’s Family Life Center, located at 22 Saint Rita Lane, Santa Rosa Beach. Parishioner Aaron Cantu of Santa Rosa Beach, the organizer for this year’s trip, will lead 13 volunteers from June 20-25, 2023. “Last year I was blessed with the opportunity to go on a mission to Mexico City supporting Hope of the Poor,” shares Cantu. Hope of the Poor is a non-profit organization committed to serving the destitute and hopeless, including street kids and the homeless. ”Since then, I have felt the Lord’s call to lead a new mission team. Our efforts will be focused on those living at the city’s dump, families imprisoned to prostitution, and the institutionalized elderly.”
Other volunteers include Brittani Bedison of Destin, Giselle Hernandez Vergara of Freeport, Juan-Pablo Pastrana with his teen son and daughter, Juan-Pablo Pastrana II and Katelyna Patrana, of Santa Rosa Beach. Cantu is also bringing his teen daughter, Samantha again on this year’s trip. “The goal is for our team to serve Jesus by serving the poor. In a world and time of such great division, should not more and more of us see the other as infinitely valuable and made only to be loved?” asks Cantu.
Anyone can support the cause with donated goods and shopping the sale. Donated items in clean and good condition are needed and can be accepted at the church’s Family Life Center building from 1 to 4pm on Sunday, April 23 and 9am to 3pm on Thursday, April 27. Computers, mattresses, cribs, car seats, and adult clothing/shoes cannot be accepted. Monetary donations can also be made at https://gofund.me/a61e2940.
