November is the month when America honors our veterans, and the Democratic Women’s Club of Walton County is encouraging our members to submit pictures of the veterans in their families (or themselves if they served) for the county’s Honor Wall for veterans at the county courthouse in Defuniak Springs. Club member Liz Wilson’s husband Robert has recently been accepted for the wall. We hope to have more of our veterans pictured in the next few months. The club offers free honorary membership to any county Democratic veteran, male or female, to our club. Club member Becki Baker is our veterans coordinator and will be happy to receive suggestions on how we can best honor them for our service. For further information, contact club president Sue Bowden at susanbowden4321@yahoo.com.
Our club also treasures and values our county’s beautiful environment. On November 18, 2023 we will be meeting at a pavilion at Eden Gardens State Park from 12 – 2 p.m. We will be doing a plant swap and will also hear environmental tips from our environmental coordinator Vaughan Greene. We also will be holding club elections for 2024-25. You do not have to be a member to attend our meetings, although you do need to be a member to vote in our elections.
The club has had a busy few months. In September educational coordinator Liz Wilson conducted a session of Freedom School at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Defuniak Springs. In October we welcomed Gay Valimont, Democratic candidate for Congress in our county (west of 331), at the Hammock Bay Clubhouse in Freeport.
We welcome new members! Please go to our website at waltoncountydwc.org for more information on our club and how to join.
