The Emerald Coast Science Center’s Seventh Annual Women in Science Conference is coming up on Tuesday, September 19, at The Place on Beal in Fort Walton Beach. The event is a celebration of women in all STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) professions. Pursuing a degree and an occupation in STEM career fields can open countless doors for a lifetime. At the Women in Science Conference, our goal is to inspire the next generation of female scientists, engineers, doctors, and more. Young women will have the opportunity to hear from women in professional STEM fields right here in Okaloosa County, as they enlighten our audience about their careers and deliver advice. This is an excellent opportunity for students of all ages and genders, especially middle school and high school students, to receive firsthand advice and information from local STEM professionals. This event is presented by Emerald Coast Science Center and BAE Systems.
The evening will consist of inspirational presentations from professional women in STEM careers. This year’s speakers include Sabina Pennington, Environmental Public Outreach Specialist, Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program; Dr. Francia Squatrito, surgeon, Bay Foot & Ankle Center; Kristen Picard, software engineer, Beast Code; Darlene Merchant, program manager, BAE Systems; Meya Martin, Senior, Niceville High SchoolGuests will have a chance to mingle with the speakers and other guest professionals, and all speakers will be a part of an open panel Q&A session for audience members to ask questions. Light refreshments will be provided.
