GREEN THUMB GARDEN CLUB WILL TOUR WESTONWOOD RANCH FOR THE FIRST MEETING OF 2024/2025
by Kathleen Edge, Publicity & Website Chair
One of the primary objectives of Green Thumb Garden Club (GTGC) is to provide Walton County students with scholarships to colleges, universities and technical schools. GTGC awarded $6,000 in scholarships this year and the Club’s goal is to increase that amount in 2025. The September meeting will give GTGC members and guests an opportunity to learn about our newest student sponsorship partner, Westonwood Ranch.
Attendees will meet at Horse Power Pavilion, located at 4497 State Highway 20 W, Freeport, Florida, for check-in beginning at 9 a.m. Carpools will then go to Westonwood Ranch for a tour and presentation, returning to Horse Power Pavilion for a brief meeting and lunch. The cost for the event including lunch is $30 (cash or check) or $32 (credit card).
Located in Freeport, Florida, Westonwood Ranch provides life skills and job skills training to teens and young adults with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD) through educational opportunities including hands-on, experiential learning in their aquaponics farm operation. In addition to the job training program, Westonwood Ranch offers transitional services day programs and an after-school equine program. For more details about this remarkable organization, their website is www.westonwood.org.
GTGC’s largest scholarship fundraiser, the fourth annual Holiday Bazaar, will be held on November 2, 2024, in the Cantina Laredo rear meeting room and the enclosed outdoor patio. Bazaar hours are from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. The past three year’s events have been sellouts so be sure to save the date and come early for the best selection.
