The hair restoration procedure at the Med-Spa of Destin & Sandestin is a two-step process that utilizes both Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections and microneedling to regenerate hair follicles. The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive hair
follicles into an active growth phase. The PRP used in the hair restoration process at the Med-Spa of Destin & Sandestin is “autologous,” meaning that it is derived from the patient’s own blood and no chemicals or artificial products are used. The PRP is obtained
by a simple blood draw, and the blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma from the rest of the blood plasma.
The PRP is then injected into the hair follicles where the hair is thinning or receding, but the patients must have follicles still present in the
area of concern. If there is baldness with no follicles, then PRP hair restoration will not be effective. The remaining blood plasma is
applied topically to the scalp for the second component of the hair restoration treatment, which is microneedling. The microneedling
places small channels into the skin that allow the hair follicles to absorb the PRP more effectively, thus enhancing the results of the procedure.
Results are typically seen within 2-6 months and the procedure may be
continued every 3-4 months to achieve the desired result.
