Walton County School District is back in session and moving forward toward the goal of being number one in the state! Although we have celebrated recognition as ranking third in the state, we can’t stop there! Students have adjusted to being back in classrooms after the summer break and are working hard to meet their academic requirements. Superintendent Hughes says, “the beginning of the year is always exciting, I enjoy having students back on campuses, they are the heartbeat our school district!”.
To keep best practices and cutting-edge educational strategies available to our students, our teachers often participate in professional development trainings. These days are early release half-days and allow our teachers to get instruction in pedagogy and new modalities of teaching which ultimately benefit our students. Teachers participated in the first of several yearly half-days on September 1, 2023, which led into the Labor Day holiday for staff and students.
Parents look for your child’s mid-term report on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Mid-term reports are provided at intervals during the school reporting terms to keep parents and guardians aware of their student’s academic progress before final grade reports are given. Parents are encouraged to keep an open line of communication with your student’s teacher and be aware of areas of concern in an effort to prevent long-term academic frustration. Parents, please remain informed concerning your child’s teachers, school procedures, and guidelines. Check our Facebook page and website regularly for current information and Superintendent updates.
Student state FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) assessments have begun for grades Pre-K through 12th. The FAST measures the progress of our students on a regular basis as they matriculate through the school year. This gives our teachers more opportunities to gauge student understanding and mastery that once at the middle or end of a year. Be sure your student is in attendance during these testing periods, well rested and prepared with a healthy breakfast so they are able to do their best work.
Walton County School District supports the academic and extra-curricular growth of all students and encourages all children to pursue all avenues to excellence! Be sure to check your school’s web page or bulletins to see what activities they will host in celebration of the education of the whole child!
