Happy New Year!  The Walton County School District looks forward to beginning the second semester of excellence in education as district educators and staff return from the Christmas Break on January 2, 2023!  Students should make last-minute activity plans before returning to classes on January 4, 2023!

Congratulations to the winners of the 2022-2023 WCSD Science Fair. The District’s annual Science Fair was held on December 5, 2022, at the Carlene H. Anderson Training Center. Student projects were on display and judged December 5, 2022, culminating in the presentation of awards to student winners on the evening of December 8, 2022. The future is in safe hands with the students of the WCSD leading the way!

Literacy Week is January 23-27, 2023. Our schools will celebrate the importance of reading and encourage families to make reading a part of their daily routines. Look for announcements regarding special Literacy Week activities at your child’s school.

Before the Christmas break, WCSD schools selected their site representatives for Teacher and ESP (Educational Support Professionals). School peers chose these exceptional employees. Those chosen will have the opportunity to represent our District at the state level as a Teacher of the Year (TOY) or Educational Support Professional of the year (ESPY). Congratulations to each of you; we appreciate your dedication and hard work!

It’s basketball and soccer season, and the Walton County programs are well underway. Walton County School District encourages the whole child’s growth, and our extra-curricular program offerings provide healthy outlets for students. The community is invited to attend and support our athletic, music, and academic programs and the students who participate.

Congratulations to Freeport Elementary and South Walton High Schools for being selected as Purple Star Schools. This designation acknowledges schools that recognize their military families by providing extra support as they transition to a new area. In addition, these schools make an extra effort to include new students in campus affairs and provide parents with additional guidance to help them navigate their child’s education. FES and SWHS, we salute you!
